Sorry I haven't blogged lately. I've been extraordinarily busy.
I got a job, at least for the next few weeks (I'm in kind of a probationary period since I've just started). I'm doing secretarial work as well as graphic design for a local medical marketing company. It's such a great fit for me (except for the phone answering part which I can't seem to get the hang of). I design custom imprinting on medical brochures for doctors & dentists, and occasionally I'll design the brochures themselves.
The only problem with the job so far is the scheduling. My boyfriend can give me a ride there, but he's at work when I get off, with the only car. And the closest bus stop is a one-hour walk away, and since my hours end during my company's business hours (and it's a company run out of someone's home), I can't get a ride to said bus stop except on slow days because my boss needs to stay and tend to the phones.
I don't mind the walk, honestly... I'm mostly worried about the extra hour of day care that needs to be paid for. But pretty soon we'll get some financial aid for the day care from the state, and it won't matter so much anymore :) Walking this much all of a sudden is rather weird though. I haven't engaged in alot of physical activity over the last two years aside from cleaning the apartment. I need to remember a bottle of water pretty much every time I leave for work now.
I am gonna lose so much weight, it's gonna be AWESOME. :)
I'm also trying for some photo retouching freelance work for a local photographer. That'll help me get some extra money on the side if he decides to take me aboard.
That said, I find myself exhausted every day now, and it'll take me awhile before I'm really accustomed to this level of activity. But now that I'm working, I've forced myself to get comfortable with the discomfort. I'd look for another job that was closer to home (or at least closer to a bus stop) if the work from day-to-day wasn't so rewarding, and if my boss wasn't just such a great person. A good boss can make all the difference in the world, and it's a rare thing to find one, so I'm not gonna be so dumb as to give that up. It'd be dumb to give up the valuable experience I'm getting, too. I get off at 3:30 but I'm not home till 7, just to give you an idea of how inconvenient the commute is with no car (driving there in the morning takes about 15-20 minutes). Even if I get my license I'm stuck since we can really only afford the one car, though, so while I work on getting my license (sometime in April hopefully), I'm trying to convince Jose to work harder on finding a job that's actually somewhere in the city where we live, rather than 30 minutes out of town. (At the very least, we can't afford the gas for both our commutes.)
So yeah, started a new job, but we're still working out the kinks in the fabric there. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on how it's going.
